Sep 24th was a nice night at the Bistro, Johnson Center, George Mason University, with Poets Eric Pankey, Caren Scott, and Ryan Walker. It is one of the great events from the fall for the book festival which is Northern Virginia's oldest and largest celebration of literature and the arts.
For Pankey, I feel his language refracted the world, his subject is different things in the world. In his poem reading, it is concise, clear and mystic. Ryan Walker is the author of Enjoy Potion, among so many other poems he's interesting, and he thinks different.

Choosing which university to attend is an immense decision to make for a young person in China. I think that emphasis on academic excellence is strongly embedded in our culture and the tradition of encouraging children to strive for excellence through Chinese education system. There is too much pressure and high workloads being put on children by their parents, school and society; some Chinese parents take this too far. There is an annual countrywide college admission test held June 7 & 8 every year and all over China traffic will be re-routed away from test centers and construction sites will silence their commotion. If anyone fails or misses this test their next chance will be the next year same time. It's the best or the worst time for seniors. The college entrance exam that I attended at 2005, there were about 10 million Chinese seniors graduated, with less than 6 million will go to college, with about less than 2 million will go to good colleges.
2005 is my lucky year because it is the year of rooster according to the Chinese calendar. I don't really believe in Feng Shui, but that year I gave it a shot. I cleared out my room, I got rid of everything that I don’t love and value and I placed little statues of frogs everywhere. I was really trying to create a positive flow of energy. Even I don't believe in the underlying principles of Feng Shui, but the ideas and actions that go along with it can really help out, and luckily in 2005 I did excellent job on the exam.
After finishing my first year of university, I suddenly realized that something was not right. I got a taste of what college life is like, and idea of what it is like to learn Economics. I was also exposed to serious academic corruption, dry and irrelevant courses, and repetitive memorization teaching. Somewhere along there I lost interest in the curriculum, and began losing confidence in China’s education system like many other Chinese college students were, but I refused to drop out of school to express my disappointment or waste time bribing teachers to pass the tests. The only value of my college life in China is I met so many people and made some great friends. Thereupon I studied English on one hand and wasted my time in university on the other.
At the end of the year, I made the biggest decision in my life, I choose to move long distances to America for my further education to experience a new culture, learn a new language, to make new friends. My parents were in full agreement with me studying abroad, and they thought moving to a new country is an eye-opening experience as well.
The way society functions among other cultures is very different from one’s own; and my parents also felt I cannot fully understand another culture until I've been there by myself. For these reasons they encouraged me to move to America to go to school there.
Finally, filled with desire to move to America and experience my interest in western culture and learn more in an American school than in Chinese I went. Since then, it has been a great experience, meeting new people, making friends and basically enjoying every minute here. I am really glad that I took this opportunity, which has opened new doors for me, and allowed me to focus on my fields of study. I also learned how to adapt to unfamiliar situations. It was fun meeting so many new people in such a short period of time, but it was hard being independent and living on my own and far away from my parents. I am now looking forward to going back to my Chinese college next year in order to finish my degree, and might end up in America after I graduate, hopefully. Studying abroad offered me many new and exciting experiences, and in my generation I believe we should do something new and different.
Although there are not very much words to describe my desire career, but I will have a better idea about my career goal and ideal job after I finish my other degree in China. There's too many choice in front of me. There's a lot of things going on in my field about global economics. I will go back to China intern some venture company and see what's my next step.
-2- Issue /Hot topics in my field my major is economics, I think it aims to explain how everything work and how everything work It covers local, national, and international economic issues. It is also issues related to our everyday life. People think about gas price, housing, inflation, credits crisis, stocks and bonds.

This is a very big Christmas tree, different colors lights, lots of present. I was sitting under the tree and I can smell the food from the kitchen, the food smells tasty. I've lots of Christmas trees all over the place, but this is the feeling I have never have. It is different. The meaning of the Christmas and the way people make the tree. Christmas more like a business in Asian country. You can feel Christmas since early December. the mall, shopping center, kid's toy and all other different stores. Everything tell you, Christmas is coming, come buy something for your friend, for your family.
When my friend came to me distressed because her family had to cancel their plane tickets to Canada for her mom don't want to give up her lawyer career in China. I told her this had happened to many people and think again if you really want to be a Canadian. She was just moving out to college, and her face tell me she is confused, feeling depressed.

Since Mitsubishi is most famous for elevators and escalators are well known . There's a strong messages and connection in business dinner. I keep the good etiquette and manners, as usual, but then I realize sometimes it's bad for business styles of dinner plates. Different customers have their own predilection. But after he start to talk, everything is changed. He has the most monotone, slow, voice i've ever heard in my life.He say a certain word "xiexie" over and over...

The United flight was to land at International at midnight local time where I was to be met by a representative from the university who would drive me to my student housing. The next morning I was to have orientation where I would get to know the other students in the program. I was absolutely terrified getting on that plane

I passed through the path where a girl asked me my study in this country, where I was staying, my school, blood type, sign and other usual unnervingly personal questions. I began to feel anxious that I would soon be on my way to the airplane for two years of travel and culture.

we start as a group, gathering the all the available economic information in the general public and guessing about rational expectations with surveys. All I can hear is the typing sound. Chats, data, graphs are all over my head.

Everyone seems to complain about the high price of gas, I was reading a article about some high school kids ride horses to school. My project group are waiting for the last person to show up. But once someone bring the topic to gas. You can see the excitement on everybody's face.
It's my dream since the age of 5 to become woman pilot, but due to all kinds of issue I end up at Economics major, but I see that I still got chance to become a pilot. I guess it’s every kid’s dream to fly, I met one of my mother's friend who is an excellent training pilot that retired because of a accident. But still fulfilling dream to fly. I started to think about my old dream since I met my anthropology teacher at George Mason university. She told me some good training school which has minimum fee. And how to get admission here in US. I think this would be a great way for me to combine my love of flying and the study abroad. If it works out that would be really great.
My current plan is to finish my economics degree at Mason and focus on learning English with my friends, then I will go back to China for a while to finish my other major in international business and trade, I still not sure what I am going to do after school, but right now, I am interested in work on some business. Other than that my goal is start my own business, or work for a China- America joint van true. So that I can travel two countries all the time and speak two language all the time. But in the long run I want to get a private pilot's license before I get too old and then I can get a part time job that fly people around.
The first person come to my mind is my grandma. I find my self in a similar way as her. We like to read, and we always fall asleep while we are reading the book. Usually I come to her house during my summer break and live there for a while. We like to barbecue all kinds of stuff, we love spicy food, very spicy. we like feed animals together. I remember we got totally 7 kinds of animals, turtles, cats, birds, rabbit, fish, baby ducks, and something called "gold squirrel bear ". I have a lots of fun when I live with my grandma when I was a kid, I don't have to worried about anything.Just relax and play.
The second influential person in my life is my father; he is a really smart guy, into all kinds of engineering things when he was young. Since I was a kid, every electronic thing we brought home he liked to take apart. Later he worked for quality audit on all kinds of elevators, so I got chance to visit all kinds of elevators in the world. I love elevators! They are extremely cool. And I worked at Mitsubishi Electric, I learned a lot. They make the best electors and escalators.
The last person I will talk about is my clarinet instructor. He's been teaching me for 10 years, and he is a real soul player as a performer. He rebuilt my confidence after my finger surgery and rekindled my love for music.
It was much hotter than I thought it should be in September. My friend drove to Mason, and the car had a broken air conditioner. All I was thinking is rush to a place with air conditioning. On the way to my class room, I went to JC bookstore and saw a girl outside passing some fake 100 dollar bill. I didn't wear my glasses, but it still made me excited. Then after I opened it, there are all kinds of coupon inside with a 100 dollar bill for the front cover.
